CHAPTER 4.00 - CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION

4.042 Participation Of Home Educated, Private School, and Virtual School Students in Extracurricular Activites and Interscholastic Athletics

POLICY:


I. Home education students currently enrolled in home education programs registered with the School District, are eligible to participate: 


(a) at the public school to which the student would be assigned according to District school board attendance area policies or which the student chooses  to attend pursuant to F.S.1002.31, and meets the designated requirements  set forth in F.S. 1006.15. 


(b) on an interscholastic athletic team at any public school in the district where the student resides, provided they meet the designated requirements set forth in F.S. 1006.15. whether the school is at capacity is not a factor in the student’s ability to participate. 


II. Students entering grades nine (9) through twelve (12) in a public school from a home education program, are eligible to participate in extracurricular activities,  provided they meet all Florida Statutes, requirements and rules established by  the School Board, and Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) and  Florida School Music Association bylaws. 


III. A private school student is eligible to participate in an interscholastic or intrascholastic sport at a public member high school, a public member middle  school or a six (6) through twelve (12) public member school provided the  student meets all Florida Statutes, requirements and rules established by the  School Board, and FHSAA bylaws. This includes the requirement that the private  school where the student is enrolled is not a member of the FHSAA or does not  offer the sport in which the student wishes to participate.


IV. A full time Florida Virtual School student is eligible to participate if the student register’s his or her intent to participate: 


(a) in the extracurricular activities at the school to which he/she would be assigned or could choose to attend under District enrollment policies and the student meets the designated requirements set forth in F>S. 1006.15. 


(b) on an interscholastic athletic team at any public school in the district in which the student resides provided the student meets the designated requirements set forth in F.S. 1006.15.
